Summer Screen School 2008

Back for another exciting year, summer screen school never fails to engange the imagination and talent of young people from across South Lanarkshire.

fps media is now accepting bookings for Summer Screen School 2008.  The week long programme teaches you all about filmmaking and lets you script, direct and produce your very own short film.  You will also have the opportunity to meet other like minded people, make new friends and hopefully have lots of fun.  Last year’s programme introduced on location filming with trips to Low Parks Museum, The Mausoleum and M&Ds Theme Park.  The programme wound up with a high profile Premiere at The Vue Cinema in Hamilton.

The programme is funded by South Lanarkshire Council and open to all young people between the ages of 13 to 18 years who attend school in South Lanarkshire.  Summer Screen School runs during July and August 2008 and is absolutely free but places are limited so book now!

Shooting Stars attend Premiere

The launch of a new financial literacy DVD ‘Making the Most of your Money’ took place at Hamilton Townhouse on 21st March 2008.  The DVD was produced by fps media in collaboration with a group of young people from Larkhall Academy following a 3 month creative media project.  The interactive DVD is designed to promote financial literacy and features dramas, quizzes and useful contacts covering areas such as opening a bank account, lending rates and consumer credit rights.

The young filmmakers were treated to excerpts from the DVD at the event followed by a presentation of commemorative DVDs and certificates by Provost Russell Clearie.  The DVD will now be used as a peer education tool in school across South Lanarkshire.

Young filmmakers tackle anti social behaviour

Young filmmakers from the Cambuslang and Rutherglen area have been working with Strathclyde Police to produce a DVD examining anti social behaviour.  The young people from 3 High Schools in the area have been participating in an out of school hours project, learning all about filmmaking and DVD design.

4 young actors appearing in a short drama about weapon use. The prop knife was supplied by Strathclyde Police and is similar to ones confiscated in the area.

Once complete the DVD will feature a drama and documentary highlighting issues around anti-social behaviour and street crime, as well as the consequences for those involved.  The DVD will be used in schools to stimulate debate and hopefully have a positive influence on the behaviour of young people.

Animation receives award nomination

‘Harry at the Zoo’ an animation produced by fps media has received recognition at a top awards ceremony ‘The Dental Awards 2008’.  The animation was produced by fps media on behalf of the Oral Health Team Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Council and features drawings produced by young people from across North Lanarkshire.

Subtitled 'Promoting Healthy Teeth' the DVD also includes a short film about how good dental health is promoted in the classroom.

‘Harry at the Zoo’ aims to educate nursery and primary school aged pupils about the importance of good oral hygiene.  The animation follows the tale of a young boy, Harry who suffers the misery of toothache during a visit to the zoo.  The popularity of the DVD has led to a follow up ‘Harry on Holiday’ due for launch during National Smile Month in June 2008.
